Not sure why I’m going to post this here instead of my blog, but oh well.
2010 was a pretty big year for me. In December of 2009 I decided that I no longer wanted to live in Tulsa with my parents so I decided to move back to Oklahoma City. I didn’t have much money, or a place to live, but I didn’t want to be stuck in Tulsa anymore. So in January I found a random person on craigslist and moved in with her. I wasn’t at the house much since I had also transferred back to my job at Seeking Sitters OKC. I was pulling nearly 70 hour weeks from January until March. And even when I slowed down with work, the slowing down was 50 hours or so.
My good friend, Kira, and I also decided in December that we wanted to go to the 5 of 5 in NYC. Those of you who aren’t avid Hanson fans probably don’t know what it is. It was the anthology of Hanson. They played at the Gramercy Theater in New York City, which is located close to Madison Square Garden. Each night was a different album leading up to Friday which was where they would play live their new album due out in June. They also decided to tack on to the end of their 5 night run a show at Bamboozle in New Jersey. Since we were already in the area we decided to go to that as well. It was an incredible trip. We stayed in a tiny hotel with 4-5 people with a community bathroom on the 7th floor with one elevator that worked part of the time. BUT we stayed on the upper west side near central park. We did all sorts of awesome things: Went to the Today Show, Saw a live taping of the Martha Stewart Show, went to the Empire State Building, Saw Ground Zero, went on the Sex and the City Tour of the City, went shopping in Herald Square/Union Square, Ate NYC pizza. It was just an over all great trip.
I also decided that I would be attending pastry arts school. I looked into a school here in OKC, but ultimately decided it wasn’t for me. I then made another major decision… to move to Austin, Texas to attend school. I’ve been back and forth with the idea of moving to Texas at first I’ll be really excited about it, then I’ll be really nervous/scared. I’ll be okay because I will be moving down with a friend of mine (who will be attending grad school at UT) and one set of grandparents live 45 minutes south of Austin, and the other set/most of my extended family live about 1 1/2 south of Austin as well. My mom is moving to California, and my dad and sister are staying in Tulsa, so that’ll be weird to be so far from them, but I’ll be okay.
I took lots of trips some to places I’ve been before: Chicago, NYC, Texas (Austin/Dallas/Houston) but also new places I had never been: Portland. I was in TWO music videos. The first one in March for Hanson in Tulsa. and the second one for Steel Train in NJ. Seriously? Who is lucky enough to be in two of their favorite band’s music videos? I made really good friends that have seriously changed my life for the better: Katie, Miranda, Lauren W, Samantha, Laura, Lisa, Ashley. And I’ve reconnected with old friends: Mary, Molly, Carla. I got closer to my family and realized that I have the best brother, sister, sister in law and nephew ever. It’s weird to think that my brother and his wife have been married 4 1/2 years and have a 1 year old, and that my sister is 19 with a serious boyfriend, working 50 hour weeks while trying to pursue her dreams.
2010 was an overall good year, but 2011 is going to be an even bigger year for me. I’m putting my 2 weeks notice in at my job on Monday, I’m moving to Austin, TX, I’m starting pastry arts school, and I’m going to be nearly out of debt. 2011. Bring.It.On.
