I wanted to talk briefly about seeing steel train in OKC and San antonio.
I flew into OKC from Austin day of the show. We got in line around 4 and ended up being front on the left side. The first band was River James. The drummer, Jacob, is formerly of the band Mae (takin’ me back to early high school). Honestly I wasn’t into them. I respect any band that gets on stage and does their thing, but I just could not, for the life of me get into them. The next band was Lady Danville. I was pleasanty surprised with them. They were a breath of fresh air. And those harmonies?! Oh boy, those harmonies. Half way through the set I knew I was a new fan. Then it was steel train’s set. I felt like we were the only ones in the crowd for them. We had insane energy and were dancing so hard. They played some off their older album, trampoline, and a few off their newest self title. And Jack totally killed it in the ‘flipping out’ part of “Touch me Bad”. He can really work a crowd. After steel train two (of three) of us got out of the crowd for Jack’s Mannequin. We hung out in the back dancing, talking to the bands and just having a good time. We gave Evan 5 picture frames with a picture of them with photoshopped beards in them. Greatest. Jack wasn’t out long, but he did see us, tried to recall our names and gave big hugs as he always does. Then it was off to San Antonio. We left OKC at 6, got to my apt in Austin around 11. We got ready, grabbed lunch then headed out. We got in line about 5, and ended up front row center. All the bands talked about how sad they were that tour was ending. After dancing, screaming my lungs out to my favorite Tom Petty song and having the best time two of us (of 4) went to the back. I may or may not have gotten a bit drunk, so I can’t recall the details, other than Jack laughing at me for double fisting my beer, being concerned with how I would get home, and just being sweet. Sorry if you saw me being obnoxious. I’m still getting use to Texas beer.
That was the rest of the show. Like I said I realllllllllllly liked Lady Danville. I would not be upset if they toured with Steel Train again.
